George County and Picayune high school football ready for rematch in the 2nd round of the playoffs

Out of the seven teams we have remaining in the playoffs, Picayune and George County is the only matchup between two coast schools.

Just a few weeks ago the two teams squared off in the regular season where the Maroon Tide found the win column, defeating the Rebels 27-20. With college level talent on both teams, this matchup is sure to be a good one. WXXV had the chance to catch up with both teams ahead of their matchup to find out what it is going to take to advance to south state.

“If we play Picayune brand football, if we have our good Mondays, good Tuesdays and even better Wednesdays we can wipe them out even better than we did last time,” said Picayune defensive end Nolan Wilson.

“It’ll be exiting, especially playing George County,” running back Darrell Smith said. “It’s going to be a big game. We have been looking forward to them since our 8th grade year. We got our lock back and we want to get another lick back again.”

“I don’t think we have a chip on our shoulder,” George County quarterback Deuce Knight said. “We just want to prove the people right in the building that are in here with us everyday. We know what we did wrong in that game, we know how good we are and we know what kind of football we play. We know that wasn’t our best football so we are going to go out there and play our best football and it’s going to be a good game.”

“I am very excited to put the pads on with my guys,” Brenn Moody said. “Every week you practice really hard so I am just happy that we get to put all of that out on Friday night.”

Picayune will welcome George County and the Rebels on Friday at 7:00 fora chance to advance to south state.
