Menge Avenue bridge overpass now open in Harrison County

The new overpass at Menge Avenue and I-10 is finally open. It’s a project that has been more than a year in the making as a larger road widening project takes place at that exit.

After almost 15 months of construction, the Menge Avenue Bridge is finally complete as the Bridge is now officially open to the public.

Funded by the Harrison County Board of Supervisors and Buc-ees, the interchange project involves replacing the Menge Avenue Bridge over I-10, widening entrance and exit ramps, and widening Firetower Road.

The project initially started back in 2023 when crews demolished the old overpass and replaced it with this new wider bridge to accommodate more traffic in the area once Buc-ees opens.

With the over yearlong project now complete, many businesses in the area like Gulf Coast Truck & Trailer Repair are hoping to return to normal but still feel the effects from the project.

Raquel Cooper is a worker who has been impacted by the construction. She said, “It’s cut our revenue down between 30 and 40 percent. We deal with big semi-trucks and they just don’t want to deal with construction. Anything coming from the West couldn’t get here but anything from the east had to deal with construction. It’s been hard hanging on.”

While construction of the Menge Avenue overpass is complete, the Buc-ees located just past the bridge isn’t complete.

Harrison County Officials say the construction is still on schedule, eyeing a completion window of Spring 2025.
