Stone County Correctional Facility housing inmates from Hattiesburg

The Stone County Correctional Facility is set to take on new inmates from out of the county.

It’s a move that jail officials say is becoming the norm. Specifically, the facility will house inmates from Hattiesburg since the jail has the space right now to house around 100 additional inmates.

This has become a regular occurrence for Stone County. The jail actually houses inmates from the six southern counties.

Assistant Warden John Moran says they can take on these extra inmates because Stone County is able to keep its inmate numbers low.

Stone County leaders haven’t been told how many inmates they’ll be receiving from Hattiesburg, but they are expected to arrive in the coming weeks.
