South Mississippians getting early start on holiday lights despite warm temperatures

South Mississippians are definitely feeling holly, jolly and hot as the holiday season is quickly approaching with record-high temperatures.

Although the heat and humidity might be making November feel more like August or September, it hasn’t kept residents from getting into the Christmas spirit.

The Coast is no stranger to Christmases that should probably call for decorated palm trees rather than pine trees: in fact, just last year, the city of Gulfport hit a high of 72 degrees on Christmas Day. However, this hasn’t stopped the Christmas lights from coming out in full force already.

From Gulfport Harbor Lights and downtown decorations to fun setups in front of homes and businesses, it seems like many were itching to get their decor out as soon as Halloween ended… even if they had to wear shorts while doing it.

In the coming weeks, expect the Mississippi Coast to be lit up by not just street lamps, but also strands of red, green, blue and gold lights that remind everyone that it’s the most wonderful time of the year.

After all, why have a white Christmas when you can have a bright Christmas?
