The polls are now closed in the 2024 November 5th General Election.

Here in South Mississippi, the races we are following on the ballot are United States President, United States Senate, U.S. House of Representative 4th Congressional District, Supreme Court District 2, Court of Appeals District 5, and school board races and election commission races.

Republican Sen. Wicker wins reelection in Mississippi, defeating Democrat Ty Pinkins

Republican Sen. Roger Wicker of Mississippi has defeated Democrat Ty Pinkins. The challenger received little financial support from his own party in a heavily Republican state.

Wicker is extending his 30-year career on Capitol Hill. He won a U.S. House seat in 1994 and was appointed to the Senate in 2007, when fellow Republican Trent Lott resigned.

Wicker is the ranking member of the Armed Services Committee and has pushed to expand shipbuilding for the military. Pinkins ran unsuccessfully for Mississippi secretary of state in 2023.

The last time Mississippi had a Democrat in the U.S. Senate was January 1989.

FOR U.S. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVE 4TH CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT:Mike Ezell

CRAIG ELLIOT RAYBON: 28.5 %Raybon1

Republican Rep. Mike Ezell won reelection to a U.S. House seat representing Mississippi on Tuesday. Ezell defeated Craig Raybon, a Democrat who has worked as a nonprofit director and truck driver. Ezell worked more than 42 years in law enforcement, including eight years as Jackson County sheriff, before he was first elected in south Mississippi’s 4th Congressional District in 2022. He is a member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and the House Homeland Security Committee. He campaigned on opposing abortion, supporting veterans and securing the U.S. border with Mexico. The Associated Press declared Ezell the winner at 9:53 p.m. EST.

George County residents voted against a proposal for a three percent hotel tax. The proposal received 4,244 votes in favor of the proposal and 6,082 votes against the proposal. The proposition was presented to voters to approve or reject a three percent hotel tax on lodging facilities in the county located outside Lucedale City limits.
