“The Voice” contestant Deon Jones has ties to South Mississippi
A contestant on NBC’s The Voice has Coast ties and sat down with us to talk about his journey from Wiggins to LA.
Deon Jones grew up spending his summers in Wiggins visiting with family, attending church, picking butter beans, and living the country life.
These days, Jones is living full time in Los Angeles and is taking full advantage of his opportunity as part of Team Reba with Coach Reba McIntyre.
Jones tell us his time in Mississippi and listening to his grandmother sing gave him the desire to perform and sing like her. “My grandmother — my father’s mother, actually — is a powerhouse evangelist and amazing singer. And I remember when I was little, I used to say ‘I want to sing like that.’ And so really, a lot of the power in my voice comes from her and my pad just pushed that out of me and got my first confidence, actually.”
Deon is set to perform in the battle rounds on Monday’s episode of ‘The Voice.’ You can catch it right here on WXXV NBC that night at 7 p.m.
