Mississippi Power’s Renew our Rivers program wraps up

Mississippi Power is wrapping up another year of renewing South Mississippi rivers.

Employees spent part of the week cleaning up the Wolf and Jourdan Rivers in Hancock County as well as the Pascagoula River near Moss Point.

Environmental Affairs Director Michael Harvey tells us this program is a way for Mississippi Power employees to help the environment and be good community stewards in the process. “We’re finishing up our last event for Renew our Rivers. It’s been a busy week; we were in Pass Christian so we covered the entire Mississippi Gulf Coast. We are excited to be out here today, this is our 19th year doing Renew our Rivers. In those 19 years, we’ve collected over 425 tons of trash and debris across our entire service territory.”

Volunteers removed a fridge, deep freezer, and even a small boat from these waterways this year.

Mississippi Power hopes to expand the program over the next few years.
