Inside the abandoned former Six Flags New Orleans
The former Six Flags New Orleans, previously known as Jazzland, has been abandoned since Hurricane Katrina devastated the region 19 years ago.
Although overgrown and heavily populated by alligators, wild hogs and vultures, many of the park’s structures have remained intact since Katrina. Over the last two decades, the site has been used to film parts of many movies — including “Deepwater Horizon” and “Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters” — but also sees an average of six people arrested per week for trespassing.
However, change is coming soon: the former Six Flags is expected to be torn down starting at the end of September. It will be transformed into an expansive family complex featuring a youth sports complex, movie production studio, waterpark, clearwater beach, hotels, family entertainment center, wedding peninsula and many other amenities.
