Review Process For Mayoral Election

It is still up in the air who will be the next mayor for the city of Diamondhead.
Last night, incumbent Mayor Tommy Schafer led his opponent, Ernie Knobloch by 79 votes before the city’s 209 absentee ballots were counted.
The entire room was shocked when the final tally came up as a 1 vote difference, with Shafer sitting at 1124 to Knobloch’s 1123 votes.
Members of the republican executive committee tell News 25 the process of what is next in this race.

“We are auditing the results of the election to make sure that the number of people that actually voted at the polls and signed the book matches the total that was cast in the machine and was announced and then after that we will be reviewing and opening the affidavit ballots around one o’clock today.”
– TY Necaise Chairman, Republican Executive Committee Diamondhead

The unofficial results will be announced afterwards.
The certification of the election is expected to come this Friday.
