Confederate Monument Comes Down

The city of New Orleans has removed yet another monument earlier this morning..
The PGT Beauregard monument is the third of four confederate-era monuments removed from the city in recent weeks.
The removal comes after the city had already taken down a statue of the confederacy’s only president and one other memorial. The city council approved of the plan to remove the monuments in 2015, but the process was stuck in legal limbo for more than a year as supporters fought to keep them up.
“That was a feeling of elation. We are very happy to see this Beauregard Statue go down. We also realize that we have many more to go. Of course we have Robert E Lee. But we defiantly want to get Andrew Jackson, E.D. White, the other slave masters that should also be gotten rid of and it really reflects our city finally going forward.”

On Tuesday, News 25 spoke with Beauvoir Executive Director Thomas Payne who said he’s pushing for the monuments taken down in New Orleans to be kept at the Beauvoir and not in storage.
