U.S. Senate Youth Program accepting applications for 2024 – 2025 school year
Do you have a high school student interested in politics?
The United States Senate has a program for juniors and seniors!
The U.S. Senate Youth Program is accepting applications for the 2024 – 2025 school year.
Two Mississippi students will receive $10,000 college scholarships, joining 102 other students in Washington, D.C.
Rayne Guilord, the program director for the Senate Youth Program, explains the history of the program and what it offers.
“The United States Senate Youth Program started in 1963. After the McCarthy era, there was great cynicism about government. The sons of William Randolph Hearst decided to begin a program that would encourage young people to go into public service,” says Guiford. “When the students come to Washington, D.C., in one week they are given a look at the three branches of government from the highest perch.”
The Mississippi Department of Education has set an application deadline of September 30.
Those applications can be found by clicking HERE.
Students will be in Washington from March 1st to March 8th, 2025.
