Humane Society of South Mississippi holding ‘Labor Yay’ adoption special

This Labor Day weekend, one Gulf Coast animal shelter wants you to have a new family member.

The Humane Society of South Mississippi located in Gulfport is having a pet adoption weekend starting today through September 7th.

They are pausing fees for all adult big dogs’ adoptions. These lovable companions are ready to fill your home with joy, loyalty, and lots of tail wags.

As the Humane Society continues to exceed maximum capacity, Katie King with HSSM tell News 25 that finding homes for adult large dogs can be a challenge. “We’re currently over 430 animals in our shelter today. We also have 130 animals out in foster homes, so we’re really encouraging everyone to please adopt if they can and help make space at the shelter. We do have people waiting to surrender their animals sadly, strays coming in every single day and if you can’t commit to adopting you can still foster and animal and make a huge impact at the shelter.”
