Grandfather and grandson aiming to reduce amount of discarded fishing line
Emmett Mcintyre and his grandson James were fishing at river park pier when they noticed a fair amount of monofilament line or fishing line.
With the help of the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources and the City of Pascagoula they were able to install a monofilament recycling station at River Park.
This is all part of the Mississippi Monofilament Recycling Program which began in 2008 and aims to reduce the amount of discarded fishing line in the environment.
There are currently 17 recycling tubes on the gulf coast but if your local pier is in need of one you’re urged to contact the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources.
