A Seat at the Table: The Testimony of Fannie Lou Hamer comes to the Mississippi Gulf Coast

A stage reading of Regina Taylor’s play A Seat at the Table: The Testimony of Fannie Lou Hamer takes place on Thursday, August 22, 2024 at 6:00 pm at the Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art.
The stage reading is sponsored by the Daughters of the African Atlantic Fund, along with The Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art, STEPS Coalition, Biloxi Little Theatre, Legacy Business League, and Sock Enterprises, Inc, and Beau Rivage.
The play commemorates the 60th anniversary of Mrs. Hamer’s testimony before the credential committee of the 1964 Democratic Convention. The televised event allowed the world to hear about the egregious treatment that she experienced as a Civil Rights Activist in Mississippi.
Regina is a nationally recognized, award-winning actress, director, playwright, educator, and activist. Her film and television roles include Lean on Me (1989), Courage Under Fire (1996), I’ll Fly Away (1991-1993), and The Unit (2006 – 2009). A Seat at the Table is among a list of plays she has written including the musical Crowns, which she wrote and directed and, which premiered in October 2002.
