8/20 – Trey Tonnessen’s “Much Calmer” Tuesday Night Forecast
Meteorologist Trey Tonnessen
Something we have been talking about over the past few days is a large ridge building over half of the country. That ridge was centered over the southern Rockies this afternoon with troughing along the Atlantic Coast. Shortwaves were moving overtop the ridging, with one over eastern South Dakota and another over Montana. An old frontal boundary was noted well south of the Louisiana coastline. Early afternoon temperatures ranged from the upper 80s to mid 90s, but with much more comfortable humidity than we have seen over the last couple weeks. Heat index values stayed below 100 degrees for most of the day. The Montana shortwave will move down the east side of the upper ridge tomorrow and tomorrow night, and be over Alabama at sunrise Thursday.
