Ocean Springs Library unveiling ‘specialty libraries’

Have you ever started a project only to realize you’re missing one item or wanted to cook a new recipe but need an ingredient you’ll likely not need again?

Wouldn’t it be nice if you rent these items like you check out a book at the library?

The Ocean Springs Library has introduced two separate initiatives that will soon tackle a similar goal.

The library is offering art supplies and tools to help with projects while a spice library will focus on spices you might not ordinarily stock in your pantry.

Both of these specialty libraries work on the ‘Take a Penny, Leave a Penny,’ model and officials hope to empower the creativity of the community. Library team member Rhiannon Glancy said, “The goal is for the community to try new things without breaking the bank. A lot of people are hobbyists, artists, into a lot of crafting and things here so we want to make sure they can do those things. There’s going to be musical instruments, baking supplies, there’s going to be tools. Not just arts and crafts tools but also you know hammers, nails, that sort of thing as well. Anything you can possibly need; we’re going to have it all. And then people can try things out and if they have anything extra, they can bring it to us and we can put in here for other people to use as well.”

The spice library will begin in September and the art supplies library is set for October.
