Jackson County Adult Detention Center cuts ties with City of Moss Point

Jackson County held a board of supervisors meeting earlier Monday morning. Among the many things they discussed, one of the most notable items on the agenda was terminating an agreement with the City of Moss Point to send its prisoners to the Jackson County Adult Detention Center.

On December 12th, 2011 Jackson County entered an agreement with the City of Moss Point to house their prisoners at the Jackson County Adult Detention Center.

Earlier Monday, nearly 14 years since that decision, Jackson County decided to end that agreement.

The termination notice was introduced by District 4 Supervisor Troy Ross who said changes needed to be made but nothing is permanent.

Ross estimates that an agreement could be reached in as soon as two months but currently Moss Point only has 30 days before they must remove all prisoners from the Jackson County Adult Detention Center. Ross made it clear that Jackson County will assist in the process but an agreement has to be reached first.

The City of Moss Point has until September 20th to reach an agreement or find a new detention center to house their prisoners.
