WWII soldier being laid to rest in Bogalusa

A Louisiana soldier is returning home.

It’s a homecoming 80 years in the making.

Private First Class Joseph Murphy was a native of Bogalusa.

He was captured when the Philippine Islands were invaded in 1941.

Murphy took part in the Bataan Death March and died as a prisoner of war.

He will be laid to rest at Pounds Poole Cemetery on August 3rd in Washington Parish.
