Lighting up blue for World MSD Day

Today marks World MSD Day and the City of Biloxi is honoring the day by lighting the lighthouse blue.

Ocean Springs resident and MDS parent Amber Olsen founded the United MDS Foundation in 2016 after her daughter was diagnosed.

The foundation grew from then and now can be found in countries like Argentina, Ireland, and Spain.

Board Member Jacki Thornburg tells the history of the foundation and how the public can get involved. “We started very small with just one mom, Amber Olsen of Ocean Springs. Now, we’ve grown globally and we have a day proclaimed by all these countries and cities for specifically United MSD. You can get involved in all types of ways. One is social media; we need social media ambassadors to spread the word.”

The Biloxi Lighthouse isn’t the only location being lit in blue. The Louisiana State Capitol and the St. Louis Science Center’s Planetarium will also become blue.
