Celebrating George Ohr’s 167th birthday at Ohr O’Keefe Museum of Art
Many showed out this weekend to celebrate the legacy of the famed Mad Potter of Biloxi George Ohr on his 167th birthday.
The Ohr O’Keefe Museum of Art kicked off the birthday celebrations on Friday, which is Ohr’s actual birthdate.
Saturday, the museum continued the fun with free admission, live music, and arts and crafts opportunities for adults and kids alike. Ohr-O’Keefe Director of Development Brenda Blount said, “I mean, when you think George Ohr being born in the 1800s and surviving this long and his legacy lives on and pottery. He has influenced so many artists in the 20th century. So, we’re super excited to be a part of that.”
Some of Ohr’s pottery pieces can even be found in the Smithsonian National Museum in Washington, D.C.
