MDOT offering resources for hurricane season
Hurricane Season started on June 1st. MDOT is offering free resources available for download to help Mississippians prepare for any upcoming hurricanes.
The agency is offering a hurricane emergency checklist as well as a hurricane evacuation guide for this year available in English, Spanish, and Vietnamese.
The evacuation guide has information such as evacuation routes, public broadcasting radio coverage areas, and important contact information for MHP, the Red Cross, and emergency management agencies.
They are also including information on neighboring Department of Transportation agencies and highway patrols.
“You’ll also need non-perishable food, flashlights, extra batteries, chargers, any necessary medicine or prescription drugs, garbage bags, a first aid kit, important family documents and photos, and a printed list of important phone numbers and contact info.”
MDOT also wants Mississippians to remember their furry friends as well, saying to bring enough food and water for any pets.
The evacuation guide is available for download here and also provides information on shelters, pet care, lodging, and travel resources as well.
