George County high school baseball eyeing first MHSAA state championship since 1997
The Rebels of George County are back competing for a 6A state championship and if they are going to bring their second state title in school history back to Lucedale, they will have to defeat Warren Central and the Vikings in a 3-game series.
The Rebels will play Wednesday and Friday at 4:00 PM, and potentially on Saturday if a game three is needed.
Sports 25 caught up with the George County baseball team ahead of their trip to Pearl, MS as head coach Brandon Davis and players spoke on what it would mean to hoist a state championship trophy.
“It would definitely leave a legacy,” said senior Jacob Eubanks. “I can always tell my kids that I’ve got a 2024 district champions, 2024 south state champions, and I can hopefully say state champions eventually. Just leave a legacy and have something that will always bring back memories and the good times I have had here.”
“We feed off each other every day,” junior Blane Green added. “It would be great to put another one right there beside 1997 for the community, not only for ourselves, but everyone around here.”
“Yeah it would be really nice,” said head coach Brandon Davis. “27 years ago, I was a part of that and for me it doesn’t seem like it was that long ago but it has been. It’s been a long time. This community has supported us every time we have been since then, you know, the three times we have been since then. It’s time. This team is poised and they are ready.”
