Electrik Maid bakery in Biloxi celebrates 100 years
An iconic Biloxi bakery is celebrating 100 years of tasty treats on the Coast!
Electrik Maid Bakery first opened its doors on April 12th, 1924. Over the years, Electrik Maid went through the Great Depression, a whole lot of hurricanes, and a major fire!
The bakery’s story begins with A.W. Bissett and Donald Etringer opened up shop. The name of the bakery comes from the electric-powered ovens at the time.
Current Owner Harrel Balius talked to us about what sets this bakery what sets this bakery apart from the others. “It’s kind of something you don’t think you may ever make. You just take every day by day and year by year type of thing. I often think if my grandfather and father were still alive what would they think? We make everything fresh. We don’t use any preservatives. If you buy a loaf of bread, it’s not going to sit on the counter for two weeks and still be okay. We are open from 6:30 in the morning through 1 in the afternoon Monday through Saturday.”
