There’s a possibility of flash flooding in six coastal counties. Here’s how to prepare:

The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for the lower six coastal counties. here’s what you should do to prepare your home for possible flash flooding — according to Hancock County Emergency Management.

EMA suggests that people living in low-lying areas move vehicles to higher ground so it can be accessed in an emergency.

Of course, it never hurts to put out sandbags as an extra precaution, but everyone should focus on moving any items that may be blown inside or to a safe place.

With how quickly the weather can turn severe, it’s essential that people be ready to react in a moment’s notice.

“It can happen within 10… 20 minutes. You just have to know your area,” said EMA director Brian Adam. “You have certain areas down off Highway 603 that will flood tidal and heavy rains, so preparing is just knowing how much rain. Keep looking at the weather, keep listening to the news, and knowing how much rain they are expecting us to get – and then making sure that you’re not stuck where you don’t want to be.”

It’s highly suggested to have a battery-operated radio during severe weather. You can also download News 25’s Weather Authority app to your cell phone.
