Remembering Biloxi Officer Robert McKeithen

Sunday marked the fifth anniversary of the tragic shooting death of Biloxi Police Officer Robert McKeithen.

McKeithen was shot and killed outside Biloxi Police headquarters the night of May 5th, 2019.

The man accused of killing McKeithen, Darian Atkinson, was declared incompetent to stand trail last year and was sent to the Mississippi State Hospital to receive psychiatric treatment with the goal of restoring his competency to stand trial.

Over the past five years, South Mississippians have rallied to support McKeithen’s family through a yearly blood drive and other benefits and now a Downtown Biloxi post office bears his name after both houses of Congress in 2022 passed a bill authorizing the name change.
