Skate Fest kicks off Saturday
Also happening this weekend, Skate Fest is coming to Biloxi.
It’s a free event, starting at 11 Saturday morning and ending at 5, so be sure to grab your skateboards and head out.
The festival is under I-110 on Hopkins Avenue. Local legends will even be battling it out.
No worries if you aren’t the best at skating, free skating lessons will be offered by the more seasoned skaters attending. Gulf Coast Skateparks Association President Tyler Prowant said, “But it’ll be so impactful to the youth to have something for them to come and skate, and hone their skills. Now that skateboarding is in the Olympics, they need a place to practice it here on the Gulf Coast. Not just that, there could be a massive economic impact to the downtown communities. So, tomorrow is pretty important. It’s not the first event we’ve done, but it’ll be the biggest one we’ve done.”
Proceeds raised during the event will help fund the creation of a 50,000 square foot concrete skate park in Biloxi.
