More details on Ocean Springs annexation

We’re diving deeper into the annexation of new land in Ocean Springs with many notable locations in the area now falling within city limits.

The map showing the annexed land has that land colored in pink and includes three separate areas. The first area is a small shopping center across from Ocean Springs Middle School. The second area is along Old Spanish Trail, including Ocean Springs High School. The third area starts at the intersection of Highways 90 and 57 which includes Sunplex Industrial Park and the Ocean Springs Sports Complex.

In a statement WXXV received on Monday, Ocean Springs Mayor Kenny Holloway stated “the annexation is long overdue.” Prior to the annexation, the city only had 11 percent of vacant land, meaning Ocean Springs was unable to grow and develop further.

The newly annexed land allows the city to include the sports complex, high school, and create more affordable housing within its city limits.

Ocean Springs police and fire crews have already started serving the newly-annexed areas.

Mayor Holloway says those living in these areas will get a mailer soon about other city services to come.
