‘Ridin’ with Buddies’ at the Harrison County Fairgrounds
Mississippi Gulf Coast Buddy Sports held its ‘Ridin’ with Buddies’ event Monday night in partnership with Mississippi Highway Patrol’s mounting unit.
The exciting event took place at the Harrison County Fairgrounds. It allows individuals with special needs to experience the joy of riding horses.
Mississippi Gulf Coast Buddy Sports has organized ‘buddy rides’ every Monday this month so far.
Organization leaders talked with us on how this event makes a big difference in the lives of the buddy’s that participate. Horseridesforfun Owner Robyn Ladner said, “Yes, it is because in other words these children would not be able to ride, if we didn’t come out and do something like this for them. Some that are not able to have a horse of their own, we give them the opportunity to come out and ride and be able to have fun and enjoy the horses. It’s great therapy and we are so blessed we’re able to do this.”
MS Gulf Coast Buddy Sports Director Mike Crawford said, “Oh, it just bumps it up a notch. Anytime you can make it more special, that’s what we like to do. All of our programs whether it’s bringing out a mascot to our baseball games, kickball games, whether it’s bringing in somebody special for our fishing trips, it doesn’t matter. Anytime we can bump it up and bring in the Mississippi Highway Patrol, the Sherriff’s office, and just bring the community together, a lot of the time people see the highway patrol or the sheriff’s office in a negative light and we want them to be seen in a positive light as well. Because they do a lot of great things for the community. Mrs. Robyn Ladner has Horseridesforfun, and it’s just fabulous to be able to work with these people who are doing good things in the community.”
