MS Black Caucus Boycotting Conference

The Mississippi Legislative Black Caucus has announced they will boycott the Southern Legislative Conference’s Annual meeting set to take place July 29th through august 2nd at the Beau Rivage.
The caucus is boycotting the conference due to Mississippi’s continuing use of the state flag with the confederate battle emblem.
Chairwoman of the Mississippi Legislative Black Caucus and Coast Representative Sonya Williams Barnes says quote,

The Mississippi Legislative Black Caucus refuses to turn its back on the millions of people who are forced to live and function under the oppressive symbol of our state flag.

She goes on to say….we are better than what that flag symbolizes.
Mississippi is a place that is rich in heritage, but is also a place rich in hope.
