Bill honoring first African American Female Highway Safety Patrol Officer

A bill is in the Mississippi House of Representatives to honor the first African-American female Highway Safety Patrol officer.

Felicia Breland was a native of Picayune and a graduate of the Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol Cadet School in 1980.

Breland kept the roads of Mississippi safe until her assignment with the agency ended in May 1990.

The House says they wish to commemorate the esteemed life, service, and legacy of Breland, calling her a trailblazer who inspired other women to pursue their passion.
