Biloxi City Council upholds denial of one Black Spring Break permit

Harrison County Also Denies Permits For Spring Break Events

While visitors coming in for Black Spring Break are welcome to use the beaches, the Biloxi City Council on Tuesday night upheld the denial of a permit for a special event.

The Biloxi City Council voted 5 to 2 to uphold the special event committee’s original decision to deny the use of the Shular lot west of the Coast Coliseum complex.

Biloxi Police Chief John Miller, who spoke against the group’s proposal at the appeal hearing, cited concerns related to the traffic congestion and public safety due to a large influx of pedestrians.

City leaders also cited the lack of a parking plan by event organizers as reasons for the original applications denial.

The city stresses that no one will be denied the use of the beach during Spring Break, just this one application submitted to the committee was denied.
