Amtrak could return to Mobile soon
A step forward tonight which could signal the return of Amtrak to Mobile.
NBC 15 has obtained the preliminary design for the proposed Amtrak platform.
The renderings show a 162 foot-long platform that would be ADA compliant. The Amtrak station would be constructed along the western side of the existing tracks just south of the convention center.
Construction would result in an additional 16 parking spaces, going from 97 spaces to 113.
The Federal Railroad Administration greenlighted the project in February.
