Marriott to build dual-brand hotel in Waveland

A 110-room dual brand hotel is planned for Waveland, the Hancock County Port & Harbor Commission announced today.
Marriott Hotels will bring the $16 million development of Fairfield and TownePlace Suites brands to the city. The hotel, the first in two decades to come to Waveland, will sit at the intersection of Highway 90 and Old Spanish Trail. The addition of the hotel also will create jobs in the city once construction is complete.
Construction is expected to begin this spring, with the completion date 18 to 24 months after that.
Waveland Mayor Jay Trapani commended the city, county and port and harbor commission working together to bring Marriott to Waveland.
“Through a joint effort of the City of Waveland, Hancock County Port & Harbor, and the Hancock County Board of Supervisors, along with the developer, Waveland Hospitality LLC, this magnificent 110-room dual brand Marriott hotel will be a catalyst that jumpstarts future growth along the west end of Hwy 90 and stands as a testament to this administration’s unwavering
commitment to progress.”
Hancock County Port & Harbor Executive Director/CEO Blaine LaFontaine said the new development is a result of growth in tourism, sports and events creating a demand in Hancock County.
“The Port and Harbor Commission and our team has committed to supporting commercial development and recruitment on our key corridors and we are proud to support this project announced for the City of Waveland,” LaFontaine said.
“Hancock County welcomes this new investment to our main retail corridor, and we hope this project will serve as a foundation to the redevelopment of commercial properties along Highway 90,” said Scotty Adam, President of the Hancock County Board of Supervisors.
