Man charged with sexual battery

A D’Iberville man turned himself in after Ocean Springs police say he sexually assaulted a woman on Front Beach.
According to Captain William Jackson, Manuel Alvelo is charged with sexual battery. Jackson says Alvelo met the female on an online dating site. The two agreed to meet in a parking lot and then drove separately to Front Beach in Ocean Springs.
Jackson says Alvelo became aggressive with the victim and sexually violated her. The victim was able to push him off, run to her vehicle and leave the scene.
She also managed to snag Alvelo’s tag number for authorities.
Alvelo turned himself in, was questioned yesterday and charged with sexual battery. He made bail on a $50,000 bond.
Alvelo claims to authorities that the altercation between the two was mutual.
