Ingalls completes acceptance trials of LPD 29

The completion of acceptance trials for the Richard M. McCool Jr. were successful.

The Richard M. McCool Jr. is an amphibious transport dock, also being the final Flight I transition ship before Ingalls moves into special production of the LPD Flight II line.

The Ingalls’ test and trials team will now complete final finish work on the ship before delivering it to the U.S. Navy.

The ship’s namesake is a Medal of Honor recipient, rescuing survivors of a sinking destroyer during the Battle of Okinawa during World War II.

His own ship was hit by a kamikaze pilot during the battle, leading a firefighting crew in rescue efforts despite being badly burned himself.
