Singing River Health Systems hosts Reputation Reset: Entering the Mental Health Era panel
Singing River Health System held a discussion on tackling mental health at the Hard Rock Casino and Resort this morning.
Singing River hosted a panel discussion on battling mental health and the best ways to navigate it.
The panel of six doctors tackled the problem from the perspective of adults and adolescents.
Keynote Speaker Emma Benoit shared her suicide attempt story that resulted in a spinal cord injury. The injury left her paralyzed.
Benoit shared her story of battling depression and anxiety as a young adult and her journey to help anyone in her shoes. “It’s a really good opportunity today that we have to really learn and re-educate ourselves on things that none of us are, most of us probably, are privy to because of that stigma and because of that taboo. So, it’s just a good opportunity today to really learn better ways that we can conversate and communicate when it comes to our mental health.”
Singing River Chief Medical Officer Dr. Randy Roth said, “Don’t be afraid if you wake up one morning and you don’t think you’re going to make it through the day to call your primary care doctor, call a nurse practitioner that you see, go to the emergency room and say, I’m thinking about harming myself. I’m not in a good spot right now. And let us find the safety net for you guys.”
Benoit now leads an innovative program called ‘My Ascension’ which helps educate young adults dealing with their mental health.
