Fort Maurepas’ playground receives improvement grant
The City of Ocean Springs is excited to upgrade the playground equipment at Fort Maurepas Park after a nearly $100,000 grant.
The park is located on Front Beach and recently received funds through the Healthy Heroes Program grant from the Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi Foundation.
The program is designed to increase health literacy among students in grades K-5 and improve community wellness.
The city also says renovations on the park’s stage and event space will be complete soon as well.
“One of our amenities that you know we definitely want to invest in for our community and our residents to enjoy. Excited about the stage cover going up. Should be complete by the end of February. This stage cover will be great for Friday at the Forts for other people to enjoy to have events down here and it’s beautiful,” said Ravin Nettles, Ocean Springs’ community relations. “The entire thing behind me will be replaced and it will have a shade above it. There will be a friendship swing out here and a cover spinner.”
Nettles says crews will begin replacing the playground at Fort Maurepas by the end of the month and expects the new equipment to be installed by early April.
