Lynn Meadows Does Some Deep Cleaning for Fall
IP Casino workers, Brittany Blackwelder and Nicole Miller, are used to the hustle and bustle of the gaming room floor, but it’s the sound of scrubbing baseboards that fills their ears as they work at a different venue, the Lynn Meadows Discovery Center. Blackwelder says, “It’s a lovely area for the kids, so it’s nice just to clean it up so that everything is good for them, clean for them, and just a fun place for them to come and enjoy themselves.”
This days-long deep cleaning is slated to become an annual event, but the project concept didn’t originate with the Lynn Meadows Discovery Center. They picked up the idea from other museums that usually shut down for an entire week for this type of cleaning. Cindy DeFrances, Executive Director of the Lynn Meadows Discovery Center, says, “We are cleaning, deep cleaning. As you can see behind me, that we are doing some sprucing up and so when our visitors come back after our three-day cleanup, they will see a beautiful, clean, extremely clean museum, as well as some freshened up exhibits.”
The Discovery Center will be closed all day Wednesday, reopening Thursday at 10 a.m., showcasing some revamped exhibits. DeFrances also says, “Well, besides a fresh, clean museum, they’ll actually see some new, clean exhibits as well as some exciting new things.”
Blackwelder and Miller are among about 20 local members of the community who are lending a hand with the cleanup, and even though they’re volunteers, they tell News 25 their hard work will pay off.
Miller closes, “Definitely a good feeling to see the kids when you come stop by and see the reaction and how excited they are, and it’s kind of giving back and it feels good, warm and fuzzy inside.”
