Stennis conducts sixth RS-25 engine test over the weekend
NASA is halfway through with their RS-25 engine tests.
The sixth certification test took place on January 27th at the Stennis Space Center.
Operators fired the RS-25 engine for almost 8 and a half minutes, the same amount needed to help launch the SLS into space.
The engine was also tested at levels ranging from 80 % to 113%.
Now at the halfway point of the series, teams will install a new certification nozzle on the engine.
Installation of the nozzle will allow engineers to gather additional performance data from a second production unit.
The last six hot fire tests are scheduled through March.
