2024 Veterans Golf Classic Underway

The Veterans Golf Association’s three-day golf classic is underway as golfers teed off at The Preserve in Vancleave Friday.

Golfers teed off Friday morning taking aim at the top prize here on the Veterans Golf Association Tour at the Preserve Golf Club.

This year’s Gulf Coast Winter Classic consists of a three-day golf tournament starting Friday in Vancleave, then at the Grand Bear Golf Course in Saucier, and Windance Country Club in Gulfport in the following days with each day being an individual tournament for the veterans.

Mississippi Director of the VGA and organizer of the classic, Daniel Evans, says the tournament gives golfers from around the country a chance to experience all South Mississippi has to offer while playing the game they love. “Eighty-three golfers from 20 states coming to Mississippi to play. They get an opportunity to get away from the cold weather. They’re coming to enjoy these beautiful courses that we can provide here on the Coast.”

Carol Price said, “The greens were running pretty fast even though it was kind of wet. It was beautiful, serene, we just enjoyed it. It was more like a therapy for me, playing out here.”

Monty Goff said, “We have the one bond that we have, and that’s playing golf together. You know, it doesn’t matter whether you shoot 70 or whether you shoot 100. It’s the fact that we just come together and we do this.”
