Two vehicles burst into flames in an early morning fatal accident in saucier.

A 51 year old man from Edwards Mississippi driving a 2001 ford van attempted to cross Highway 49 from old Highway 49 shortly before 8.
A 21 year old man from Hattiesburg hit the driver’s side of the van while traveling South on 49 in his 2009 Red Chevrolet Cobalt.
After the collision at the intersection both vehicles busted into flames.
Witnesses at the scene did their best to pull both drivers out of the vehicles…but only one made it out alive with nonlife threatening injuries.
The 51 year old died on the scene from injuries sustained at the crash.
Chief Sullivan tells News 25 this is not the first accident at this intersection.
“Any intersection where you have non-control meaning that there’s not a traffic light on Highway 49 is a concern of ours because we see people crossing or trying to cross against traffic…they did come to a stop and then they go but may not see the traffic and pull out in front of somebody and on highway speeds of Highway 49 your reaction time is short at best.”
– Chief Pat Sullivan Harrison County Fire Service

Officials are not releasing the name of the driver who died in the crash until the family is notified.
