Bill Passes for Armed Security in Churches
New legislation passed by the Mississippi State House of Representatives could allow churches across the state to have legally armed security.
House bill 786, known as the Mississippi Church Protection Act, would allow houses of worship to designate members to undergo firearm training and carry guns to protect the congregation. Representative Andy Gipson of Braxton is a minister and authored the bill and says he wishes it wasn’t necessary. On the other hand, Representative John Hines of Greenville says the new bill could create more problems than actually help.
The bill will now go on to the Senate.
