Family caregiver named Mississippi Hero

Mississippi Heroes honored a mother for being a caregiver.

Kelli Tucker is the caregiver for her adult brother, Michael, and her son, Sam.

The two of them are autistic and need accommodations to navigate the world.

Kelli Tucker is their advocate and caregiver, paving the way for them.

Mississippi Heroes believes it takes a selfless person to dedicate their life to caring for another, and that’s why they are happy to name both professional and unprofessional caregivers heroes.

Tucker tells us she’s always stepped up when necessary. It’s just who she is.

“I’ve always sort of taken care of my family, even from a young age. We just take care of each other. It’s just how we were taught to do, and it just came naturally to do so,” she said. “Whether it came down to taking care of my brother, or my son who now has a disability, and friends and neighbors, if they needed help, we helped each other. That’s what we do.”

Caregivers often forget to pour into their own cups, so Kelli Tucker received two gift cards to the spa so she can relax.
