Families lay wreaths honoring veterans for National Wreaths across America Day
Saturday was National Wreaths across America Day as many gathered along the Coast to honor our veterans.
Veterans, soldiers, and their families gathered at the Biloxi National Cemetery to lay wreaths on the graves of those who served our country. 876 wreaths were laid at the National Cemetery.
Also, over in Waveland, the Bay High ROTC laid wreaths on the fallen with help from employees at Riemann Family Funeral Homes.
Coordinator Becky Rutz says the day is always an opportunity to heal for families, especially during the Christmas holiday. “It’s an opportunity I thank to heal. It’s a way to a remember that without what these people did. We wouldn’t be able to have activities and events like this. We wouldn’t be permitted. We wouldn’t be permitted to express our thoughts to honor our dead. We owe a debt we can never repay. The least we can do is remember and honor them.”
In all, there were four sites that hosted ceremonies on the Coast for National Wreaths across America Day, out of more than 4,200 across the country.
