UPDATE: Pearl River Valley Electric restores power to Big Level area

More than 4 thousand customers woke up to no power in Stone County this morning, according to Pearl River Valley Electric.

The company’s outage map shows that 4,095 customers in the Big Level area from McHenry to north of Wiggins and west of Highway 49 were in the outage area.

The outage began at 6:52 a.m. and power was restored just before 8 a.m.

Wiggins manager Billy McCrary said an equipment failure at the Big Level substation caused the outage, which lasted 57 minutes.

He said while the company never wants something like that to happen, he was pleased to see the response of his crews to identify the problem quickly so that power could be restored.
