Former Ocean Springs teacher admits to relationship with student
A former Ocean Springs teacher admitted to having sex with a student in her car and at his home for at least a month before his arrest.
Our media partner, the Sun Herald, reports that 38-year-old James Hawkins II admitted to the encounters during an interview with Sheriff’s Captain Kristen Johnson.
Johnson testified at Hawkin’s probable cause hearing Tuesday. He was granted bond of $150,000.
Hawkins was charged with sexual battery, although additional charges are expected.
An investigation began when the teen and her parents reported the crimes on November 30th. Hawkins said he didn’t know the relationship was criminal.
He said he planned to leave his wife and toddler and elope with the teen.
