Restoration project announced for Jackson County beaches

The Jackson County Board of Supervisors has recently signed an agreement with the Army Corps of Engineers to initiate a coast-wide beach and dune ecosystem restoration project.

The project focuses on Jackson County’s three man-made beaches.

That includes Ocean Springs’ Front and East Beach as well as Pascagoula Front Beach.

The main objectives for the project include increasing the resiliency of the beaches.

The project will also provide hurricane and storm damage risk reduction benefits as well as expanding nesting habitat for shorebirds and other marine animals.

The year-long construction phase could begin as soon as 2026.
