Southern Miss student & faculty member finalists for geography competition

A Southern Miss geography student and faculty member have been selected as finalists for the National 2023 ArcGIS StoryMaps Competition.

The projects submitted by Joshua Green and Dr. Kayla Stan were selected as finalists for tracks consisting of a place-based research project/scholarly article on conversation.

During a web mapping course, Dr. Stan’s students were challenged to create stories about conversing the planet using the software ArcGIS StoryMaps – the students being required to submit their work to the competition.

Dr. Stan said teaching web mapping wasn’t the only purpose of her course, it was also to equip students with effective communication skills across diverse mediums.
