Granny’s Alliance hosts open house for first responders
Granny’s Alliance invited local first responders to an open house showcasing resources available to them during emergencies.
Granny’s Alliance creates base camps during emergencies or even special events.
These base camps include a dining hall complete with games and living rooms for people to relax.
They also have a medical tent, laundry, showers, and sleeping trailers.
The entire camp is self-sufficient after a disaster, offering people an area to stay while they rebuild.
Granny’s Alliance also has trailers that first responders, who often work non-stop during an emergency, can use while out in the field.
Doug Burtch, Senior Vice President of facilities at Granny’s Alliance said, “People forget that they’re part of the disaster also. They’ve been affected by the storm just as much, but they have jobs to do. They still have to take care of their families. We set up small base camps like this and we can set up large base camps for many more people. Two years ago, Hurricane Ida in Louisiana, we set up a base camp for 2,500 first responders in Thibodeaux.”
An entire base camp can be set up within four days if traveling, and even sooner for the coast.
