Biloxi mayor says Popps Ferry extension is close

Biloxi Mayor FoFo Gilich told chamber members this morning he hopes the city can soon call for bids on the Popps Ferry Extension Project.

Speaking at the latest Breakfast with the Mayor, held at the Edgewater Mall this morning, Mayor Gilich said once a bid is awarded, he hoped the project would be completed in a year’s time.

The project calls for Popp’s Ferry Road to extend down to Beach Boulevard, just west of the Mississippi Coast Coliseum.

He also said the connection will help with the future funding for a new Popps Ferry Bridge.

In the meantime, the city plans to replace the draw span and locks on the existing bridge.
